WATJ Board 
Minutes of April 28, 2004 Meeting 

Present: Kurt, Aki, Motoko, Courtney, Laurie and Yoshi

Absent:

2. Additions or modifications to the agenda
Kurt added WATJ Website Update
Aki added the dates of next Conference

3. Regular agenda items.

Motoko presented the Treasurer’s report for this month. The total amount of the WATJ fund is $5758.75 in Checking account and $2578.53 in Saving account. She also said that all the bills from the camp have been paid. The cost of the Uchiage Party for the camp was $150. About twenty people participated at Todai Restaurant on April 24th. She also updated all the WATJ members e-mail address for NCJLT e-letter. 

Laurie and Motoko agreed the number of WATJ general members as of today is 76 members. 

4. Old Business
Dinner with Kato Sensei. Board had requested Kato sensei to be an Honorary Member of WATJ. Kato sensei agrees to help WATJ with a mini series of lectures at general meetings and advise board on pedagogy related topics. 


5. New Business
Board Member Election. The Vice President and Treasurer’s positions will be open for the next year. Motoko and Aki will be the election Committee. Aki will make an electronic ballot. Kurt and Yoshi will contact those who might be candidates for those positions. 

Board agreed to donate $200 to Hyogo Speech contest this year. 
WATJ set up the Professional Develop Grant Fund for members. Up to $1000 total a year. Aki will create application form. 

Yoshi and Kurt look into the clock hour opportunity for the general meetings with Kato sensei’s mini lectures. 

Board considered the dates of the next conference due to the conflict with WAFLT spring regional. But board decides the end of the February or beginning of March is the best at this point and that we would not promote the WAFLT Regional Conference. 

Website. We pay $27.80 to Hitmark every month for maintenance fee. Kurt suggested we should consider finding another server or person who can do this for us cheaper or free. 

Registration for next year. Board agreed that members will be able to jointly register for both WATJ and WAFLT until 10/10/2004. 

6. Next WATJ Board meeting will be prior to the General Meeting on June 5th. The Board will meet from 9-10am and the General Meeting will be from 10am to 12:30pm.
